The brain and spirituality (super-brief edition)

I hope to hold a much longer post on the biology of superstition, spirituality, and god/s in the future. For now, I’ll only include a picture, and explain where the politically conservative’s part of the brain is most active. First the picture:

And now the explanation. You see the lower part, the amygdala?

That’s the part that fundamentalists play off of. Ever since the First Great Awakening in the 1730s (which I’ll again touch on in another, future post), preachers and priests know how to make you believe, whether you want to or not. The amygdala is one of the most primitive parts of your brain, and if you don’t master the prefrontal cortex,

you’ll too become enslaved to the church.

The proselytizing evangelist invaded Murray State University today. And he was preaching that everyone, except for him, was going to Hell. We never got on the subject of the Big Bang, evolution, or abiogensis. Here are some pictures of the event:
