In Ganesh we trust!

January 5, 2008 at 11:48 pm (Hinduism)

Alright, I’m going to do something a bit different. I’m going to study a different Hindu God everyday for the next week, and post a post up here. In Nashville, the closest real city, or at least what I consider a city, considering that I’m from a rather large one myself (albeit, not as large as Nashville, but Louisville is pretty damn large). Let’s get started then, shall we?

Ganesh, the Hindu God who “is widely revered as the Remover of Obstaclesand more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles (Vighnesha, Vighneshvara),patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom.” He is not only recognized by those of Hindi faiths, but those of Jainism, Buddhism, and others. “One popular way Ganesha is worshipped is by chanting a Ganesha Sahasranama, a litany of ‘a thousand names of Ganesha’.” He also goes by names such as the “lord of success”, and “destroyer of pride”, among others. He is one of my favorites already. There is tons more info on this guy, but I’ll let you read the rest.
